DAY 2 : ARUSHA –TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park is second only to Ngorongoro Conservation area in terms of concentrations of wildlife. The Park lies to the south of the large open grasslands of southern Maasailand and is named after the Tarangire River, which provides permanent water for wildlife in the Park. It is an easy drive by good tarmac road from Arusha, passing open plains and great views of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru along the way.. Herds of migratory wildebeest, gazelle, zebra and buffalo gather along the marshy shores of Lake Natron. These pools are shared by flocks of birds: green wood hoopoes, fisher lovebirds, tallis herons, white bellied go-away birds and giant kingfishers. Resident lions, giraffes, elephants, are common at Tarangire national park. Accommodation at Tarangire safari Lodge(FB)

    DAY 3 : TARANGIRE-NGORONGORO CRATER

After breakfast we drive to Ngoro Ngoro Crater passing some very scenic landscapes of mto wa mbu area then Karatu centre. Upon arrival, we descend to the crater floor for a wonderful game drive. Called the eighth wonder of the world, the crater won’t fail to take your breath away as you stand on the rim looking down a 10-mile wide crater floor with abundant wildlife. It is impossible to give a fair description of the size and beauty of the Crater, for there is nothing with which one can compare it. It is one of the wonders of the world. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world covering approximately 260 sq km’s with walls rising 600 meters from the crater floor. Before the Ngorongoro Volcano exploded and collapsed 2 million years ago, it was one of the world’s tallest mountains. This is a garden of Eden, packed with some 30,000 animals. The largest herds of animals we see today are wildebeest as they mingle with zebra and Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle. Unlike their counterparts in the nearby Serengeti, the wildebeest and zebra living in the Ngorongoro do not migrate because water in the crater is plentiful year-round. We’re likely to see large herds of buffalo and sizeable numbers of eland, hartebeest, and waterbuck. Elephants most often browse near the Lerai forest and hippos grunt and snort as they sit out the heat of the day in the lakes. Ngorongoro is one of the few places in Africa where black rhinos can still be seen. Among the predators, there are five prides of black-maned lions with as many as 18 members in each pride. Cheetahs are often seen alone or in pairs. Hyenas and jackals abound. In the forest, at the crater’s rim, we may catch sight of an elusive leopard. Bird life around the crater is also prolific. More than a hundred species are found here that aren’t seen in the Serengeti. Ostriches, Kori bustards, and secretary birds stalk the grasslands. Pure-white egrets and red-billed ox-peckers scurry along the backs of buffalo. Crested cranes honk furiously as they launch into flight. Along the shores of Lake Magadi lesser flamingoes feed in the algae-rich waters. We will drive on route at the evening to Rhino Lodge for Dinner and Overnight.(F B)

    DAY4 : NGORONGORO-SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast we depart to central serengeti for a game drive for two days. Your first game drive follows in the afternoon after you arrive where you will see great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of topi, hartebeest, impala and Grant’s gazelle among other exotic animals. Out of the vast sea of grass also rise great granite outcrops, known as ‘kopjes’, which have their own range of vegetation and wildlife. Towards Seronera, the Park headquarters, the landscape becomes more varied. Hills rise out of plains criss-crossed by small rivers. Umbrella acacia trees appear, elegant and serene, contrasting with the twisted commiphora trees. Accomodati at Nyati Tented Camp.(FB)

Day 5 is dedicated to a full day game drive along Northern Serengeti plains- home to elusive lions, leopards, elephants, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, wild dog, gazelles, and crocodiles among others. The Serengeti is famed for its incredible wildlife, stunning views and the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras. In this frenzied bout of territorial conquests and mating, witness an actual survival of the fittest as these animals plunge through crocodile-infested waters.

The wildebeest will birth more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 mile) pilgrimage begins again. Accommodation at Tingitana Tented Camp.(FB)
